Tree work at Hatton's Pond
July 13th and 14th – Hatton’s pond willow pruning (repollard) and cherry removal
In partnership with Hart District Council it was agreed that work to reduce the leaf fall into Hatton’s pond is required to improve the ponds quality. Reducing leaf fall into the pond will help to reduce the build-up of silt in the pond, which is an ongoing management issue. These works will also allow more light to reach the ponds surface. The willow tree will quickly regrow and will likely need repollarding in the future.
It was also agreed that the cherry tree would be removed, but this will be replaced by the planting of another tree in a more suitable location on the common this winter. Further works to the pond will take place this autumn in order to improve its condition. More details of this will be made available closer to the time.
