Hart Community support for Ukrainian Refugees and their Hosts
Please read an important message from Hart Voluntary Action regarding community support for Ukrainian Refugees and their Hosts.
Hart Voluntary Action are offering to help connect up individuals, groups and volunteers to make the best use of the resources and offers of help on offer.
Our idea is a Ukraine Supporters Network for Hart and there is more explanation at this weblink https://www.hartvolaction.org.uk/hart-residents-for-ukraine/ along with 2 short questionnaires – one for hosts who would like to be kept informed of community support and one for offers of help and time from individuals, informal/mutual aid groups, and constituted organisations.
We would like to get as a good picture as we can of all the support on offer or needed. We are anticipating requests for space for meetings/events or for sorting additional donations, help with navigating the local area and getting access to appointments for health, finance, legal and benefits advice, help with translation, interpreting and language teaching, but other types of support may also be identified, and we would love to hear from you about any offers you have to connect/involve Ukrainians with your organisations’ existing activities.
Support from the Local Authority:
Hampshire County Council is leading on making initial contact with all Hampshire residents who have registered with the Homes for Ukraine scheme to host one or more Ukrainian refugees. This will involve home visits and DBS checks as well as support for children up to 16 to be enrolled in local schools.
Hart District Council will be dealing with any housing/homeless issues that might arise and working with Hart Voluntary Action and other agencies on promoting the community-level support for Ukrainians and their hosts that already exists alongside new activity specifically for Ukrainian refugees.
